Defenders Putting Hands Behind Their Backs
|
One of my pet hates. I wonder what our coaches think, especially Stuart Pearce? On Liverpool's 2nd goal both Masuaku and Balbuena had their arms behind their backs trying to defend, the ball eventually went through Balbuena’s legs. Hoddle was talking about this in the week becoming a common ‘trait’ of poor defending when players tuck their hands behind the back when a ball is struck towards them. "It’s not natural and, for one, it puts a player off balance. Yes, it might avoid being punished by an over-officious referee, but it doesn’t enable a defender to do his job."

It’s more commonplace this season but it’s hardly new. It’s ridiculous and unnecessary and just another nail really - the game is slowly drifting into something totally removed from what we all fell for in the first place

I've long been of the opinion that we need to encourage retiring players to become referees.
Most of these idiots have NO feel for the game.

If you fold your arms across the front of your body you can't be accused of putting your arms out but will actually make your body width wider.

I expect it's something they actively practice in training.

Yes I know why players are doing it but what I'm questioning is the off chance of the ball hitting your arm Versus trying to defend with your hands behind your back and not being able to jump properly or change direction that could lead to goals.

I think they're probably just taking the "Hands" bit in "Hands, Face, Space" the wrong way.

A ‘natural’ position when facing up a forward in a position like that is to have your feet planted slightly wider than shoulder width and have your arms a bit away from your body for balance and so you can move to either side. As said if a forward then just flicks a ball at your hand the twats on the pitch and in VAR land who don’t understand football will say the hands are making your silhouette bigger and call it handball The cunts
Oh and Hoddle is a cunt too

They're having to do this because of the new handball rules.
